Do you want to know what amused me on my lunch break today? Men in business suits trying to figure out where to put their plates at the cafeteria.

It makes me laugh that these people, who are part of a company's management team (yes, I did overhear them talking during lunch), who seem to be at a loss when they have to do something as mundane as putting their dishes in a tray. They look clumsy and out of their element. As an employee who works under people like this, it never ceases to amaze me that these people appear to have no common sense.

Here I am, a liberal-minded flunky that still carries a filofax of paper and carries my contacts around in business card form, wondering how it is these people ever got into management anyhow. I don't own a PDA and don't think I will because I think it zaps the person carrying it of any street smarts or in this case, intelligence. In my experience, many managers can be pushy and they cannot understand how some things can just not be done at lightening speed. It makes no difference to them that they have left deadlines until the last minute or that they are rude to people to get things done. They just don't understand that to get things done, they need to show consideration.

I once knew a PhD who didn't understand the concept of budgeting. I don't think she even knew how to balance a cheque book. I think that she thought that money grew on trees. At least she did when she was trying to get supplies. She had to be told over and over again that if there wasn't enough money, she couldn't get things.

It is the average person that knows how to get things done. Being considerate is an important tool in getting tasks completed. This seems to be something that many people have forgotten.

In the meantime, I laugh to myself at those people who consider themselves too important to be a good person. Perhaps I should feel sorry for them but I don't. They are who they are and if karma gets them in the end, they have no one to blame but themselves.

By the way, I hope this doesn't sound like a rant. It wasn't intended to be.
